Travel vouchers
We’re pleased to donate travel vouchers to help community groups raise funds for their great work. The vouchers cover travel on our Interislander ferry and Great Journeys New Zealand Scenic trains.
We donate over $150,000 in community support every year. We give priority to communities located near our Interislander terminals in Wellington and Picton and railway stations connected by our scenic train services.

Beautification
We work with community groups to reduce litter and prevent and remove graffiti, including the talented students from the Kākano Youth Arts Collective, who have created a number of fantastic murals for us. By supporting projects like these we’re showcasing local talent, reducing graffiti and discouraging taggers from putting themselves in danger by trespassing on the rail corridor.
If you live near the rail corridor and you're interested in doing any maintenance work on our land, such as mowing or planting, you can enquire about a beautification lease.

Murals
This container mural at the Ranui Railway Station was created by the very talented students from the Kākano Youth Arts Trust.
Wahine 50th anniversary
In April 2018, KiwiRail was a key supporter of the 50th anniversary commemorations of the Wahine tragedy. Crew from the rail ferry Aramoana bravely manned lifeboats in the rough seas to rescue passengers and crew from the stricken Wahine ferry in 1968.
