KiwiRail’s campaign to relaunch the Coastal Pacific Great Journeys of New Zealand service after the Kaikoura earthquake has been recognised with a prestigious marketing award.
It was one of a trio of awards won by KiwiRail this week, along with the Best Graduate Development Programme 2019, and an Outstanding Leadership Award at the Property Council’s Wellington Property People Awards.
KiwiRail’s campaign to relaunch the Coastal Pacific took the Gold Award in the “Short-term Success” category at the Effie Awards.
The Coastal Pacific ceased running after the Main North Line was extensively damaged by the November 2016 Kaikoura earthquake. It was not able to resume services until December 2018.
“The amount of work from our KiwiRail colleagues and partners to get the train line ready for the Coastal Pacific to return to service was exceptional,” says Tourism Brand Manager Ella Street.
A huge amount of work went into the preparation and delivery of this campaign.
“Working in collaboration with our agency partners DDB Group, OMD and our internal tourism marketing and communications teams, we created a high impact campaign that grabbed attention.
“We are very proud to receive this award and be in the company of many outstanding marketing organisations in New Zealand.”
On Wednesday, KiwiRail won the Best Graduate Development Programme Award for 2019 in the New Zealand Association of Graduate Employer (NZAGE) Industry Awards.
After two years of running a formalised graduate programme, KiwiRail was listed among other award winners including AECOM, Ixom and Xero for the award.
KiwiRail Chief Operating Officer Todd Moyle says the programme supports the growth of KiwiRail.
“Attracting graduates and young people to join our team is vitally important for us as we grow our operations to meet the changing needs of our customers and stakeholders.”
Rounding out the trio of awards, KiwiRail Group General Manager Property Stephanie Campbell received the Momentum Consulting Outstanding Leadership Award at the New Zealand Property Council’s Wellington Property People Awards
Making the award, the judges described Ms Campbell as “a role model who has instilled cultural change."
Ms Campbell said the award was also a tribute to her team.
