Level crossing upgrades in full swing

In Masterton we’re not far from completing civil works for Hillcrest and Cornwall Street level crossings, and are underway at Kent Street in Carterton.  Some of the enabling work is also happening now at Akura Road and Ngaumutawa Road.

From January we get into the next big tranche of upgrades, kicking off on 13 January with Renall Street and Ngaumutawa Road in Masterton, Carterton’s Belvedere Road, and work continues at Kent Street.

Each public crossing takes six to eight weeks to complete.  We’ll have road closures in place at times to reduce how long we need to be on site and minimise disruption.  There’ll be good signage and detours in place, but if you have any worries please drop us a line.

Plans and timeframes for crossing upgrades through Featherston are also coming together, with most of these getting underway early to mid-2025.

Each crossing on the Wairarapa Line is being fitted out with barrier arms, warning lights and bells.   Thanks for your patience while we make your level crossings safer, and get them ready for the arrival of faster and more frequent trains.
