KiwiRail incurs charges for the planning, coordination, and scheduling services we provide. These efforts guarantee safe access to the rail corridor for you and your team, enabling the smooth execution of your planned activities.

Charges Overview
Please be aware that the listed charges do not include GST, travel, or accommodation expenses. Additional fees for travel and accommodation will incur when our protection staff must travel to your work site.
Sponsorship of Works by KiwiRail
Please note that KiwiRail may sponsor certain projects, which would entail covering the permit application fee. This sponsorship applies exclusively to works carried out for KiwiRail and is not applicable when KiwiRail personnel are directly involved in the works. Applicants should consider this distinction when applying for a permit.
Commencement of Delivery
The processing of delivery timeframes will begin upon the receipt and verification of all necessary documentation.
Charge Assessment
Following the submission and confirmation of your documentation, we will determine the appropriate permit category. All applicable fees must be settled upon the signing of the Permit to Enter.
Payment Terms
Please note that payment is a prerequisite for entry.
Annual Permits
For recurring, minor projects across various sites, an Annual Permit could be an option. Eligibility is determined individually.
A consultation with our Corridor Access Team is required to review your work schedule and address health and safety protocols. The fee for an Annual Permit is $3,250.00 (+GST).

Rail Protection - Service Charges
Your Permit to Enter may require an approved rail protection officer(s) to be present during works.
For safety reasons, all protection is booked and managed by KiwiRail.

Cancellation policy
Please note that once you have booked a Rail Protection Officer with us it means that we have reserved time in our schedule exclusively for you.
If you wish to cancel or postpone safety protection less than five working days before it is scheduled to take place, you will be charged the full cost.
To avoid being charged, you must provide cancellation notice at least five working days in advance via email to a KiwiRail representative.
