Our teams also carry out a wide range of short-notice essential maintenance activities, often overnight, so trains can keep running safely, which is not always listed here. They work hard to keep any disturbance to a minimum while they do this.

From 15 September KiwiRail is transitioning to a more proactive maintenance schedule, as part of this our teams will now be allowed access on a forward planned basis. This way is in line with international best practice and will increase our productivity and use of valuable time on the rail network.
Please see below for the nights that are available for our teams to do regular maintenance at any area/s within the outlined sections below. N.B. these tables will be updated fortnightly so please check regularly.
This work will cover a number of disciplines including track, signals, traction, and our ATIS (Automated Track Inspection System) vehicle, and some of these works will be more disruptive than others.
Please note there will be other planned works occurring (see : Short-Term works and our on-going upgrade works), as well as urgent works, at times.

You may experience noise and vibration from machinery, lights and vehicles moving around the rail corridor.
We are aware that this may disturb some of our neighbours and we apologise. Our staff and contractors are mindful when working in residential areas and work hard to get the job done as quickly and quietly as possible.
