Hutt Valley Line

As part of the Future Rail programme, we are delivering several projects along the Hutt Valley Line to enable more frequent and reliable services.

We have already completed:

  • A second track between Trentham and Upper Hutt (using an award-winning digital shield technology)
  • Trentham Station: new pedestrian underpass and new platform shelter
  • Wallaceville Station: new platform and two new shelters, automatic pedestrian gates at Ward Street level crossing
  • Upper Hutt Station: renewed signals and track improvements around the station, automatic pedestrian gates at Blenheim Street level crossing

We are still working on:

  • New power supply for signals
Blenheim St crossing

Pedestrian gates make Blenheim Street level crossing safer.

This timelapse video shows the intense work involved to construct the new pedestrian underpass at Trentham Station. The train tracks were temporarily removed, a large hole excavated and the concrete core craned in.
